Limiting Application Bandwidth on HP Switches

In this article we will configure the HP7510 switch to limit the bandwidth for two specific applications. The switch is placed in the company central building and is connected to the WAN router that provides access to offices in different remote locations.

We will limit the bandwidth for two applications:

  • File server – 10.101.5.70
  • Web proxy -10.101.1.233

Locations that will have the bandwidth limited:

  • Location1 – 10.109.102.0/23
  • Location2  – 10.109.210.0/23

1. Define the ACLs to classify the traffic:

2. Configure the traffic-classifiers using the defined ACLs.

 if-match acl 3102
traffic classifier FileServer-Location2 operator and

3. Configure traffic-behaviors with the desired bandwidth limits.

The bandwidth limits are the CIR, and are limited to 4000 kbps (4 Mbps) for the webproxy access from each location, and to 8 kbps (8Mbps) for the fileserver for each location.

4. Configure the qos-policy that will match each classifier with the desired behavior.

5. Apply the qos-policy to the interface connected to the the WAN router.

qos apply policy Remote-Locations outbound

6. To verify the results, use the command:

display qos policy interface
